Cosmetic Dentistry and Veneers

Even with great preventive care, some smiles need a little extra to really sparkle. For this reason, Dr. Maher offers a number of cosmetic dentistry services, including dental veneers. Whatever your particular cosmetic concern, we are happy to help you have the smile of your dreams.

What are Dental Veneers?

Modern dentistry has allowed dental veneers, the secret to many celebrities’ stunning smiles, to become more affordable and more available than ever. Veneers are thin shells that are placed over your own teeth to give you beautiful, flawless, white teeth. Veneers are a great option if you are looking for a permanent teeth whitening solution, have small chips or ridges that you’d like to hide, or have teeth that are too short or small.

Are Dental Veneers Right for Me?

Are you interested in dental veneers? Call our office today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Maher. He will examine your teeth and gums, discuss your goals and your commitment to good oral health care, and work with you to determine if dental veneers are a good choice. Most adults with good overall health are candidates for veneers, especially if your teeth are free from decay and you have good gum health.

Once dental veneers are placed on your teeth, the process is not reversible. The veneers themselves are not permanent, and they will need to be replaced in about five to ten years.

How are Veneers Placed?

When you decide that you are ready for dental veneers and Dr. Maher agrees that they are a good option for you, you will return to our office to have your teeth prepared for the veneers. Because veneers fit over your natural teeth, a small amount of enamel will need to be removed to make room for the veneers.

Once this is complete, we will take impressions of your teeth to create molds that we send to one of our trusted dental labs for fabrication, or we may be able to fabricate the veneers on-site in our office, significantly reducing the waiting time for permanent placement of your veneers.

When your veneers are complete, it will be time for you to return to our office to have them placed. Dr. Maher will first clean and polish your teeth and then etch them to create a surface that the bonding material will cling to. After checking the veneers to make sure that they are the correct size, shape, and shade, he will place them on to your teeth. When you are happy with the way they fit and look, he will cure the bonding material.

If at any time you are concerned about the fit or appearance of your dental veneers, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Caring for Your Veneers

Continue to brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss every evening. Keep up with your regular twice-yearly checkups and professional cleanings. While veneers are typically fairly stain resistant, you may still wish to avoid foods and beverages that tend to cause staining, like red wine and coffee, because veneers cannot be whitened in the same way that teeth can.
