Same-Day Dental Crowns

As much as we enjoy seeing and visiting with our patients, we understand that you have a busy life and would rather not have to return to our office repeatedly. Modern dental techniques, like the CEREC same-day crown system, allow for faster, more efficient dental care. We are pleased to offer CEREC same-day crowns to help our busy patients get on with their lives with no discomfort or hassle.

CEREC crowns allow us to create your crown right here in our Walnut Creek dental office exactly to your liking and specifications. Other dental offices send your restoration work out to dental labs that require you to wait two weeks or more to get your finished crown. In the meantime, you would receive temporary crowns, which must then be removed before the finished crown can be replaced. Why go through all of that when you can have custom-made crowns ready the very same day?

How CEREC Works

CEREC crowns are made using a special type of computer system. Not only is Dr. Maher certified in the use of the CEREC machine, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. As part of his studies for this degree, he learned to work with composite materials as well as computer-aided design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) – skills that make him the perfect choice to create your crowns.

Once you and Dr. Maher have determined that crowns are a good choice for you, Dr. Maher will use a high-precision camera to take digital images of your teeth. This also means no more messy and uncomfortable impressions! These images are then used by the computer to create a customized restoration for you. You and Dr. Maher will make sure that the restoration perfectly matches the shape and shade of your own natural teeth. Once the tooth is perfect, it will be milled from porcelain to create a beautiful crown that will fit comfortably and be indistinguishable from your own teeth.

The entire process takes less than three hours. In the meantime, we can prepare your tooth for the crown so that it can be placed as soon as it is ready. Dr. Maher will check that the fit is perfect, bond the crown, and you will be ready to go with a fully functional tooth.

The Advantages of CEREC Crowns

In addition to creating beautiful crowns quickly, CEREC has even more advantages. Traditional crowns made of porcelain fused to metal usually reveal themselves with an unattractive dark discoloration right at the gum line. CEREC crowns do not have this type of cosmetic flaw and blend in perfectly with your own natural teeth.

CEREC crowns are also long-lasting. With good oral hygiene habits and proper dental care, you can expect your crowns to last for approximately 20 years. Crowns are a good way to save and strengthen an existing tooth without the need for invasive procedures like extractions and dental implants.
